Remembering Uncle Joe

1.  Way back in the day, Uncle Joe had a funny term of affection for the toddler's in his family - his daughters, nephews, nieces.  He would pick the little one up, give the toddler's belly a gentle little tickle and say "Uei... ciarola!"  I've looked around but  I can't find a translation for that Italian word.  I think it meant something like "Hey... doughball!"   I remember Uncle Joe doing this to me when I was little, and later to my brother Paul.  We laughed and laughed.        2.  In early 2008, my father (Vincent DiLello, Joe's brother) was moved from his nursing home into a hospital, to treat a number of problems.  Due to my Dad's Alzheimers and the medications he was on, my Dad had lost all speech - he couldn't form words any more.  He hadn't spoken an understandable phrase in a year.  Uncle Joe and Aunt Rita made the long trip down from Massachusetts (with Joanne's help) to visit Dad in the hospital.  We didn't know it, but Dad only had a few months left.  I was sitting on a chair next to Dad's bed, with my back to the door of the room.  Dad was sitting in bed, facing the door.  Suddenly Dad's eyes lit up and he said (as clear as a bell) -- "Look, Giuseppe came to see me!"  I turned and there were Joe, Rita and Joanne.  The bond between Uncle Joe and my Dad was so strong that it brought my Dad back for a moment.  It turned out to be the last clear moment my Dad ever had.  Thanks, Uncle Joe.
