Obituary for Marjorie Janet Cutting

SANDWICH – Marjorie J. (Cook) Cutting, 84, of Sandwich, passed away at Royal Megansett Nursing Home, Falmouth on Wednesday, November 19.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Cutting of Auburn. She is survived by her sons Bruce Cutting of Quincy; and James (Jim) Cutting, his wife Mary and their four children – Patti, Kelly, Colleen and Molly – all of Auburn. Sister of Jon S. Cook and his wife Janet of St. Petersburg, FL and Plymouth, MA; Sumner G. Cook, Jr. and his partner Marsha Sullivan of Millinocket, ME; and the late Robert P. Cook and his wife Kim of Falmouth. Dear friend for 35 years, Sally Teeven of Sandwich. Loving aunt of ten nieces and nephews and eight grand nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was born in Chelsea, to the late Sumner G. and Frances (Magee) Cook of Winthrop. She spent her childhood in Winthrop, New Bedford, and Auburn. She attended New Bedford High, Auburn High, and Worcester State Teachers College, attaining an M. Ed. in Counseling.
Marjorie had a long career in social services, including regional director for the Girls Scouts in CT and MA; guidance counselor at Oxford Public Schools and Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School; Executive Director, Worcester Girls Clubs; Regional Development Consultant to Girls Clubs of America; and Executive Director, Atlanta Diabetes Association. After her “retirement”, she lived and worked in Hilton Head, SC. She relocated to Sandwich in 1999, and then worked for another 14 years at Mahoney’s Garden Center in Falmouth.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening, woodworking, refinishing furniture, sailing, reading, her dogs, and most recently her new kitten Marmalade.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 1-3 PM Saturday November 29, 2014 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 3PM. The Rev. Dennis Knight presiding.
