Monica E. Thomson, 95, of Shrewsbury died Friday July 12, 2013 at home.

She leaves a sister, Frances T. Kay of Shrewsbury; twelve nieces and nephews, Maryanne Lane and her husband, Earl of Worcester, Nancy Kay of Shrewsbury, John Kay and his wife, Cindy and their children, Kevin and Samantha of North Andover, Jean Jerus of Florida and Anne Marie Reidy of Worcester; also survived by special friends, Evelyn Bradshaw and Shirley Mendolia of Fairfax, Virginia. She was predeceased by six siblings, John, Joseph, Frank, Mary, Anna and Helen.

Monica was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph and Petronella (Giedra) Tomasunas. She graduated from Grafton High School in1935. She later went to New England Business Institute and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston in 1940.

After graduation, Monica worked in Worcester as a secretary for several years. In 1955, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked in the Fiscal Accounting Department for the U.S. Treasury. While working for the U.S. Government, Monica continued her education receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in 1965 from George Washington University and her Masters of Social Work from Catholic University in 1968. She then moved to Pennsylvania where she was a social worker for the Chester County Children and Youth Services for twelve years.

Monica was a member of the Worcester County Light Opera; and an active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world and reading.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service celebrating Monica’s life on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury.
