Obituary for Josephine L. DePalma (DiLeo)

Josephine L. (DiLeo) DePalma, 104, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Beaumont Rehabilitation Skilled Nursing Center, Northborough after a long wonderful life.

Her loving husband of 34 years, Salvatore A. DePalma died in 1981. She leaves her daughter Janice Ryzewski and her husband, William A. of Shrewsbury; a brother, Joseph C. DiLeo of Worcester; three grandsons, William M. Ryzewski of Worcester, Joseph A. Ryzewski and his wife, Melissa of East Brookfield and Dr. Matthew W. Ryzewski and his wife, Kathleen of Shrewsbury; also survived by one beautiful great granddaughter, Meredith. She was predeceased by three brothers, Chester, Maurice and Louis DiLeo and two sisters, Mary Leard and Rose Lamantea all of Worcester.

Josephine was born in Bisceglie, Provincia of Bari, Italy, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Lamantea) DiLeo. She graduated from the Worcester Public Schools and has resided in Shrewsbury for the past 61 years.She had worked for many years for the former Hale Drug in the center of Shrewsbury before her retirement in 1971.

Josephine was faithful member of Saint Mary’s Parish where she was a member of the Jet Set and the Women’s Guild. She also was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the East Side Post # 201 American Legion in Worcester.
Josephine’s family would like to thank the staff of Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Northborough for the care, compassion and comfort they gave Josephine during her stay there.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Josephine’s family on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 3-6 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial donations can be kindly made to The Shrewsbury Firefighters Association, 11 Church Road Shrewsbury, MA.
