Helen M. (Toombs) Smith, 95, of Shrewsbury, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, left this earth for a much better place on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Helen was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Millard B. Smith and seven siblings, Dorothy, Gladys, Shirley, Vera, Robert, Richard and Erwin. She leaves a daughter, Madeline Duhamel with whom she lived, four grandchildren, Richard Duhamel, Jr. and his wife, Roxanne, Deborah O’Neil and her husband, John, Michele Duhamel and fiancé Paul Rennie, Dawn Stanton and her husband, Daniel; ten great grandchildren, Richard Duhamel, Rebekah Miller, Ryan Duhamel, Riley Stanton, Quinn Stanton, Adam O’Neil and wife Sara, Amanda O’Neil, Abigail O’Neil, Ashley O’Neil and Andrea O’Neil and three great great grandchildren; Braydon, Kiara and Landon.

She was born in Shrewsbury, daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Leporte) Toombs. Helen graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1936 and lived most of her life in Shrewsbury.

Helen worked at the Glavin Center in Shrewsbury for many years, retiring in 1980. Previously she worked for the Bose Corporation in Framingham and Owned Smitty’s Taxi Service in Westborough with her husband for several years.

Friends and Relatives are invited to visit with Helen’s family on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 6-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. Shrewsbury. A service celebrating Helen’s life will follow at 8 PM.
Burial will be private in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
