Obituary for George J. Rozell

George J.  Rozell
George J. Rozell, Jr., 89, of Auburn, died peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, following an illness.

He leaves his beloved companion and best friend of 35 years, Merrily Murphy; his four children, Lance T. Rozell and his wife Susan of Fitchburg, Douglas J. Rozell, Roxanne Rozell Ross and her husband Steve of Millbury and Robin Rozell of Rhode Island; many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Gladys and Doris. He was born in Worcester, son of the late George J. and Josephine (Dumas) Rozell and lived in Auburn for many years. He attended Worcester Schools and later became a Licensed Practical Nurse. George was a proud veteran of World War II, serving as a paratrooper in the US Army, stationed in the European Theater, where he saw service in the Ardennes in Belgium and the Rhineland. He received as Purple Heart for injuries during battle and three Bronze Service Stars. When George returned to Worcester, he worked as a machinist and for the former UPD before working as an LPN for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the former Westborough State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1979. George loved playing the guitar, a hobby he has enjoyed since he was 16 years old, and spending time searching the internet on his computer.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family on Tuesday, November 13th from 5-7 PM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn.
