Obituary for Normand R Marois

Normand R Marois
Normand R. Marois, 83, of Shrewsbury formerly of Auburn and Sutton, died peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with his loving family by his side.

Normand was born in Worcester, son of the late Ralph D. and Evelyn M. (Boucher) Marois. He graduated from Assumption Prep in 1953 and later Assumption College in 1957.

He married the late Gloria B. (Robidoux) Marois on October 26, 1957 in Notre Dame Church in Southbridge and they were blessed with 61 years together as husband and wife. They settled in Auburn where they raised their five children before moving to Sutton for a number of years eventually moving to the Southgate Community in 2017.

Normand was fortunate to have a number of loves in his life. First and foremost his wife of 61 years Gloria, who recently passed away. He loved her and we pray that they are back together again. They enjoyed playing tennis together making many friends in the process and being members of the Worcester Tennis Club for many years. His large family consisting of five children, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. So fortunate to have time to enjoy them and watch as they grew up during his lifetime. He loved construction whether as owner of Marois Brothers for many years or while doing various real estate projects mainly in the Auburn and Worcester area. He also loved Assumption College where he not only attended as an undergraduate student, graduating in 1957 but also as a lifelong contributor of the College being the sixth member of the Alumni Association Hall of Fame, serving as a Trustee of the College for 15 years and being inducted as an honorary member of the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame. His contributions to the College are numerous and helped the College grow into the institution it is today. He was lucky enough to make lifelong friendships there and loved socializing with his Assumption Prep classmates and their spouses during their annual class reunions.

He served on many cultural, civic and community groups during his life. He was a board member of the Commerce Insurance Company and later, the Commerce Group, the Saint Francis Home of Worcester and the aforementioned Assumption College. He was especially proud of his Franco American heritage, which led him to spend many years as a member of the Harmony Club of Worcester, serving as its president in 1970. He was an incorporator of Hahnemann Hospital of Worcester and a longtime supporter of Mechanics Hall. Normand also served in the Army reserves for a number of years being honorably discharged in 1963.

He leaves his five children, Nancy A. Winn and her husband David of Sutton, Jeffrey N. Marois of Millbury, Barbara J. Marois and her partner Terri Nelson of Dover, New Hampshire, Ralph D.
