Obituary for Diane M Scanlon (Schaefer)

Diane M Scanlon (Schaefer)
Diane M. (Schaefer) Scanlon, 77 of Webster, formerly of Seffner, Florida, and longtime Auburn resident was called home to God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Domenick Scanlon with whom she shared 23 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Herman and Adelle (Thibeault) Schaefer, Diane was raised in Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School class of 1959. In 1960, Diane first met her sweetheart, Domenick and the two were married in 1961, eventually returning to Auburn where they raised their family. As she entered retirement, Diane moved to Florida and enjoyed traveling. During these recent years, she returned home to Massachusetts.

Diane worked as a tax preparer for a private CPA firm and for many years at H&R Block where she was the district bookkeeper.

In her spare time Diane enjoyed gardening. She also enjoyed the company of her dog Curly. A special passion of Diane’s was knitting for her family, as well as donations for families in need.

Diane is survived by her children David Scanlon and his wife Christine of Dudley, Donald Scanlon and his wife Wendy of Millbury, Debra Minor and her husband Colin of Auburn; her grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Candace Scanlon, Timothy Scanlon, Brandon Scanlon, Nathan Minor, and Ryan Minor; her sister Joan Baker and her husband John; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Herman Schaefer.

Diane’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Center of Webster and the Southern Worcester County VNA Hospice for such special care.

Her family invites relatives and friends to visit with them between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Diane’s memory to a charity of your choice.
