Obituary for James R Whitton Jr.

James R Whitton Jr.
James R. Whitton, Jr., 88, of Worcester died peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2018 with his family at his side at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of 62 years of Mary Ann (Feeney) Whitton.

Born, raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Florence (Van Hedenkamp) and James R. Whitton, Sr. Jim was proudly patriotic and joined the United States Army during the Korean war. Following his service, Jim returned to Brooklyn and married the love of his life, Mary Ann, in 1956. Shortly after they married, they settled in the Berkshires and started their family. Jim was a pioneer in the beginning of the computer/data processing industry. A hockey enthusiast, Jim established the Wachonah Regional High School hockey program in Dalton MA and mentored youth hockey players in the area. Jim was proud to represent the United States in the 1956 Good Will Hockey tour in Japan. He played for the Highland Jerseys and refereed. Jim was also a dedicated golfer. Most of all, he loved any time he could spend with his family. After retiring, Jim enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach and traveling to watch his grandchildren’s many extra-curricular activities.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his children, Kathleen M. Ouellette and her husband Robert of Portsmouth, RI, James M. Whitton and his wife Debbie of Auburn, Anne M. Cutler and her husband Ira of Maynard, his grandchildren Chelsea, Lindsey, Kristen, Nicholas, Nicole, Matthew, Samantha, and Nina, whom he loved so much; his brother Robert and his wife Judy, nephew Reid Whitton, and his niece Amy Thornton. Jim was predeceased by his sister, Betty Albert, of Santa Monica, California.

BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME is assisting James’ family with services which will be held in private. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Jim’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 1 (800) 822-6344, memorial # 11339021 or at stjude.org.
