Obituary for Marilyn A Carlson (Laprad)

Marilyn A Carlson (Laprad)
Marilyn A. (Laprad) Carlson, 79, of Auburn died peacefully on Tuesday January 16th, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Marilyn was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn , daughter of the late Bernard Laprad and Evelyn (Varg) Laprad. She was the stepdaughter of the late Emerson B. Stevens. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1956 and Worcester State College in 1960 with a degree in Elementary Education. In that same year of 1960, she married the love of her life, Leland G. Carlson on April 16th.

Marilyn was a kindergarten teacher and then day care center director in Brockton, jobs that she loved. She later moved back to Auburn where she became a Library Associate at the Auburn Public Library, retiring in 2002. Marilyn enjoyed working in the children’s room, where she could pass on her love of books to young readers. Her love for reading was a gift she also gave her daughters. Marilyn’s love for animals was another passion inherited by her daughters, and she tolerated some odd pets throughout their childhood. Marilyn also enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and daughters’ friends.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Leland G. Carlson; her two children, Cheryl L. Carlson of Quincy and Laurie Carlson Giannaros and her husband Nicolas of North Easton; a brother, Mark Stevens of CT, Elizabeth Prouty and Karen Prefontaine both of Auburn; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summit Elder Care in Charlton for the years of compassionate care they provided Marilyn. They would also like to thank the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center for end of life care.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating and honoring Marilyn’s life on Saturday January 20, 2017 at 11:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester, followed by a reception at the church. A private graveside service will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Memorial contributions may be made to: Summit Elder Care Charlton - Activity Department, 88 Masonic Home Rd, Charlton MA, 01507.
