Obituary for Donald R. Stevenson Sr.

Donald R. Stevenson Sr.
Donald R. Stevenson, Sr. 84, of Auburn died Friday evening in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle of cancer.

He was born in Worcester son of the late Herschel R. and Blanche A. (Mercier) Stevenson. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School.

He served his country proudly with the Unites States Air Force during the Korean Conflict being honorably discharged in 1957. He was a member of the Auburn Sportsman Club, The Main South VFW Post in Worcester, and a life member of Auburn Lodge of Elks.

Donald had been employed as a Toolmaker for most of his life with his last employment being with the former Jamesbury Corporation in Worcester. After retirement he dabbled in some handy work for the Auburn Senior Center.

Donald had several hobbies; He has always been a gifted artist. Painting in mediums of oil and acrylic of many known landscapes, with his favorite being wintery scenes, also prize-winning owls, animals, clowns and more, but more recently Donald laid his paint brush down, and traded in for his carving tools, and amazed all who have seen his work. He was a first-place prize winner of many of his carvings mostly of New England birds.

Donald enjoyed his summer place in Kennebunk, Maine. He also loved his social time playing cards, but mostly enjoyed his time with family. Donald had a very good sense of humor and joked around regularly. Donald also loved to tell jokes and really knew how to deliver it!

Recently while at a stay at St Vincent’s, Donald just wanted to go home. He got his wish and was able to see his beloved cat Casper, and the house he had built and lived in for over fifty years. Once home he was satisfied and ready to go home to Jesus and be with his wife Barbara.

Donald will be missed by so many people, but knowing he is in Heaven, and pain free gives us comfort.

His wife and best friend, Barbara A. (Davis) Stevenson died in 2007. He leaves his children, Sandra A. Brusa and her husband Mark of Auburn, Donald R. Stevenson, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Oxford and Tracy L.
