Obituary for Doris D. Henley (Dean)

Doris D. (Dean) Henley, 90, lifelong Shrewsbury resident died on Monday September 26, 2016 of natural causes.

Doris was born and raised in Shrewsbury daughter of the late Carlton R. and Kathleen (Smith) Dean. She graduated from Major Howard Beal High School in Shrewsbury and later from Simmons College with a Bachelor’s degree.

Doris had held several working positions throughout the years such as a dietary educator At UMASS, a receptionist at the Fairport Baptist Home and at Mass General Hospital as a dietitian. She enjoyed volunteering for many organizations in her spare time. The most precious job of all to her was being a full time mom and taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, and bird watching. Doris was an avid reader and was the past president of the Book Club at the Westbrook Crossing Community in Shrewsbury.

Doris’ husband and best friend of over 50 years, Homer Henley died in 2002. She leaves two sons, Gordon D. Henley and his wife, Carol of North Potomac, Maryland and James D. Henley and his wife, Alice of Cromwell, Connecticut; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Rev. David J. Dean of Cromwell, Connecticut and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Randall Dean.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Doris’ family and attend her memorial service that will be celebrated on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10 am in the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury.
Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA or to the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury, MA.
