Obituary for Raymond E. Garrison

Raymond E.  Garrison
NORTHBOROUGH—Raymond E. Garrison, of Whitney Place, Northborough, Mass., formerly of Westbrook Crossing, Shrewsbury, MA, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Beaumont at Northborough at the age of 92.

Ray, the son of the late Edwin and Mertie Garrison, graduated from Roxbury High School in Succasunna, NJ in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army with Reconnaissance Company 637th Tank Destroyer Battalion during WWII while stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Ray retired from ARRADCOM, formerly Picatinny Arsenal, in Dover, NJ after 36 years of service.

Ray was predeceased in 2010 by his beloved wife, Ruth A. Garrison, to whom he was married for 66 years. Between the 1940s and the 1990s, Ray served his native NJ community in various capacities: on the Board of Recreation Commissioners for Roxbury Township, on the Committee on Senior Housing, as Junior Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 54, and as the troop’s Explorer Post Advisor. Ray was an active member of the Succasunna United Methodist Church in NJ, and later of the Wellspring United Methodist Church in Shrewsbury, MA. He also enjoyed a lifetime membership in The Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, Inc., Worcester, MA.

Survivors include a son, Robert Garrison and his wife Judy, and a daughter, Diane Anders and her husband Robert; four grandchildren, Robert Burns and his wife Sherry, Michael Garrison and his wife Laurie, Jon Anders and his wife Anjali, and Sarah Masi and her husband Paul; and five great-grandchildren, Jake and Caitlyn Burns, Trent Brothers, and Kallie and Connor Garrison. Ray was predeceased in 2004 by a brother, Howard Garrison.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ray’s family on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Ray’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 with a Prayer Service at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Salmon VNA & Hospice, 37 Birch Street, Milford, MA 01757; or to the Wellspring United Methodist Church, 440 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
