Obituary for Raymond J. "Ray" Curren

Raymond J. "Ray"  Curren
AUBURN- Raymond J. “Ray” Curren, 91, of Worcester, formerly of Auburn, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

His wife of 52 years, Marie T. (Terrien) Curren died in 2000. He leaves five sons, Rodney J., Richard F., D. Michael.,Raymond J and James D. Curren; three daughters, T. Christene Ripley, Sharon J. Grybowski, and Cynthia R. Fitzgerald; also survived by twenty one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A daughter, Suzanne M. Manzi predeceased him.

Ray was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, son of the late Raymond L. and Christene E. (Oster) Curran. He graduated from Burr Oak High School in Burr Oak, Kansas and Wentworth Institute in Boston. Ray served his country proudly for over 27 years with the Unites States Navy retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.

After his Navy commitment, Ray worked for over twenty five years as a Supervising Engineer for the Raytheon Corporation until his retirement in 1985. In his retirement years, Ray was very active with Saint Joseph’s Church in Auburn where he was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of Servant of God’s Love Group. He also found time to be involved with Fr. DiOrio and his missions in the Church for 30 years. He was a member of the Toastmasters and the Naval Reserve Officers Association.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Raymond’s family on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4-7 PM in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Friday, October 9, 2015 with a funeral Mass at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will be in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Webster. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, www.childrenshospital.org/giving .
