Joseph M. Hamel (1944-2015)
Auburn, MA – Joseph M. Hamel, 70, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015.
He leaves his beloved wife of 46 years, Janice, his son, Joseph Jr., and his two daughters, Barbara Ruzzoli and Allison Hamel Dahlquist. He leaves nine grandchildren, Joseph III and Olivia Hamel; Krystal, Matthew, Katheryn, Elizabeth, and Laura Ruzzoli; and Michael Jr. and Samuel Dahlquist; and two great-granddaughters, LillyAnn Alicea and Nissa Ruzzoli.
Born in Springfield, MA, to Florence (Quinlivan) and Leo Hamel, he served in the US Army as SP4 Military Policeman 1964-1967. He was an award-winning professional news photographer for WWLP TV-22, WSMW TV-27 & WBZ TV-4 for over 30 years and past-president of the Boston Press Photographers Association. He was a local businessman and actively involved in local politics.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 6, at the Britton Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at St. Joseph’s Church, 194 Oxford St, Auburn. A private burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
