Obituary for Audrey Lillian Zammarelli (James)

AUBURN- Audrey Lillian (James) Zammarelli 89, of Auburn MA and Little Compton, RI passed away peacefully on March 19, 2015. She was the wife of Salvatore who died on March 18, 1985.
She leaves her children, Stephen and his wife, Sandra of Haverhill NH; Susan McMahon of Auburn, MA, with whom she lived; Paul and his wife, Paula of Holden, MA; Lisa Marron and her husband, Leo of Worcester, MA. and her daughter in law, Susan Zammarelli of Worcester, MA.
She also leaves 13 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and the 15th Great Grandchild is due in April, several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
Audrey was born in Newport Rhode Island on November 2, 1925. She is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Hazel (Henderson) James, her brothers, Edward and Norman James and her sister Isabelle MacGill.
Audrey was a telephone operator in Newport for many years. After her marriage to Salvatore the family moved to Cranston Rhode Island before finally settling in Auburn, MA.
Audrey and Sal owned and operated Sam’s Sewing Center on Park Avenue in Worcester, MA for many years.
Audrey and Salvatore were Founding Members of North American Martyrs Parish and were faithful members of the Church community. Audrey was also an active member with the Auburn Senior Center and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Audrey loved spending her summers in Little Compton Rhode Island and sharing her love for the ocean with her family. She referred to herself as “A Tough Ole Yank” who loved Gray’s Mocha Chip Ice Cream, Friday night fish and chips and her treasured memories of riding her Bicycle. She truly was the Heart of her family.
Audrey’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Judy Rozanski and Helen Dube. Their care and compassion helped her daughter honor her mother’s wishes to remain living in her own home; Dr. E. Russell Young, her Primary Care Physician; the Auburn Fire and Rescue for their kindness and assistance; and the Auburn Visiting Nurses for their home visits and excellent care.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Audrey’s family on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral will be on Saturday, March 28, 2015 with her funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in North American Martyr’s Church, 8 Wyoma Avenue, Auburn. She will be buried next to her beloved Salvatore in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Kateri’s Kitchen at North American Martyr’s Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn, MA 01501.
