Obituary for Antoinette F. Giannini
AUBURN- Antoinette F. Giannini, 91, a longtime Auburn resident died peacefully Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her grandniece, with whom she lived, Marybeth Schultz and her children Louis and Lily; two nieces, Anne Coyne and her husband, John and their son, Matthew of Auburn; and Elizabeth Giannini and her husband, Jeffrey McCollough and daughters, Rose and Kathryn of Hatfield; a nephew, Frank Domenic Giannini, Jr., and his wife, Jennifer and daughters, Eden and Ava of Roanoke, Virginia.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Domenic and Mary (Amato) Giannini. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Louis Domenic Giannini and Frank Domenic Giannini and his wife, Rosemarie (Monfreda) Giannini and grandnephew, Stephen Ryan Coyne.
Antoinette started taking piano lessons as a young child. After graduating from North High School in 1941, she went on to study music at Boston University. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music in 1944 and a Master’s Degree in Music 1948. While continuing her education at Columbia University and The Julliard School in New York City, she accompanied many performers, including Roland Hayes, performed at Carnegie Hall, and was offered a Fulbright Scholarship.
Antoinette’s true calling was sharing her love of music with others. Her first teaching job was at David Prouty High School in Spencer. Miss G, as she was affectionately called, led many choral groups and glee clubs, including the student nurses at Worcester City Hospital. She taught music at Commerce High School and brought a group of students to the World’s Fair to perform. When Commerce closed, Miss G. moved into Room 101 at Doherty Memorial High School in 1966, and remained a faculty member until her retirement in 1991.
Throughout her life, Antoinette enjoyed traveling, theater and the world of great music and art. After retiring, she continued to teach piano privately and was a judge for National Guild of Piano Teachers. She loved corresponding with former students and took great pride in all of their accomplishments after they left her classroom. Antoinette also loved spending her summers in Maine by the ocean with her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Antoinette’ s family on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 5-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral will be held on Friday from the funeral home, with her funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in North American Martyr’s Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Donations in her memory can be made to Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester, 203 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA 01501.
