Aloysius N Lewis
Aloysius Noel Lewis passed away on the 25th of October, 2014, with his devoted wife of 50 years Avazon D’Lima Lewis by his side. Aloysius (Alwyn) was born to the late Francis Xavier Lewis and Bastiana Paulina Lewis on July 7th, 1926, in Uppoor, in the state of Karnataka, India.
Alwyn is survived by his wife and their five children: Glen Lewis and wife Carol Lewis, Gloria Lewis Patwari and husband Krushanu Patwari, Gina Sargent, Geoffrey Lewis and wife Helena Lewis, and Gavin Lewis and wife Gemma Amato. Alwyn is survived by his eight grandchildren: Keanu Patwari, Ava Sargent, Sophia Lewis, Korey Patwari, Galen Lewis, Jared Sargent, Karina Sargent, and Logan Lewis. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Patrick Lewis, his sister Prescilla DeLima, and several nieces and nephews. Alwyn was predeceased by his sisters Philomena Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Sr. Bartholomew Lewis, Jessie Fernandez, and his brother Benedict Lewis.
In 1961, Alwyn moved to Aden, Yemen, to pursue work opportunities. In 1962, he ventured to Kuwait, where he and Avazon married and raised their five children. Alwyn worked for Kuwait Airways for 28 years and also at his brother Benedict’s business before returning to India in 1990 during the Gulf War. For 21 years, Alwyn and Avazon enjoyed a peaceful life in India. In 2011, they moved to Auburn, Massachusetts, to be closer to their beloved children.
Alwyn enjoyed a rich life, especially when spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He had a great sense of adventure and loved to travel. He opened up the wonders of the world to his family with many trips to far-off places. Alwyn was a loving and caring husband and father. In all that he did, he put his children first, and worked hard to ensure that all of them were college-educated in the United States. Alwyn was adored by all who knew him. His love will live in our hearts forever. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Alwyn’s family from 9:30-10:30 am on the 29th of October, 2014, at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home at 91 Central St. in Auburn, MA.
