Obituary for John C. "JB" Belcher

John C. “JB” Belcher, 73, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in his daughter’s home in Woodstock, CT surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Cancer.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Mary A. (Cummins) Belcher; three daughters, Kelly Hauk and husband, Billy of Woodstock, Shannon Belcher and husband, Robert Browne of Woodstock and Deborah Faunce and husband, Michael of Spencer; a grandson, William ”Skippy” Hauk a granddaughter, Tiffany, two great grandchildren, two brothers, a sister, a brother- in- law, Ed Mickelson along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, and his Great Dane “Mickey”.

John was born in Worcester to the late Edwin and Hazel (Davis) Belcher. He was raised in Shrewsbury where he lived his entire life. John served his country proudly as a United States Marine.

He was a dedicated Iron Worker and a proud member of Local # 57 in Worcester, MA. After working for the Local for many years, John and his brother, Kerry opened and operated their family business, Belcher Steel Erectors in Leicester. If not on the golf course, you could find John behind the bar at ‘Bronzo’s in Shrewsbury where he worked as a bartender for many years.

John enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandson “Skippy” where they picked tomatoes together; he loved his boat the “19th Hole” and playing golf at Juniper Hill with his long time friends. He was a member of the VFW Post in Shrewsbury, the Marine Corp. League and the Italian Club both in Worcester.

Calling hours for John will be on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will be at a later date in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Flowers may be sent or donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut, 320 Pomfret Street, Putnam, CT 06260.
