Daniel P. "Dan"  Bailey
SHREWSBURY- Daniel P. Bailey, 59,of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 11, 2014 due to complications from diabetes. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Dan was born in Worcester, son of Richard F., Sr. and Phyllis C. (Auren) Bailey.
He leaves his beloved wife of 36 years, Sheila J. (Lovely) Bailey; three daughters who were the joy of his life: twins Lauren C. Bailey of Shrewsbury and Elyse G., wife of John T. Favreau of Marlboro, and DeAnna J. Bailey of Shrewsbury. He also leaves two brothers, Richard F. Bailey, Jr. and Thomas E. Bailey and one sister, Virginia L. Bastas.
Dan also leaves behind several brothers- and sisters-in-law, including Sherrie L. Tarquinio of Hubbardston; many nephews and nieces, including Sommerly L. Borbone of Sturbridge and Stefeni J. Bartlett of Worcester; several grand-nephews and grand-nieces; and many friends.
Dan was a well-liked and respected man who was known for his wit and honesty.
Dan graduated from Burncoat Senior High School in Worcester, attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and graduated from the former Central New England College with a degree in Computer Science. He was a computer technician at Geac Computers for many years before retiring due to his illness.
One of Dan’s greatest passions was being a dad. He was heavily involved in his daughters’ school and other activities, serving as Treasurer for his daughters’ Girl Scout troop. Many remember his contributions to Walter J. Paton elementary school including the restoration of the playground equipment and organizing the yearly “Breakfast with Dad” event, along with the “Paton Pride” annual clean-up day, the banking program, classroom volunteering, and being a chaperone on nearly every school field trip.
Dan had a passion for bowling and was an avid bowler since childhood, bowling in leagues at the former Lincoln Lanes in Worcester and later in Auburn and Shrewsbury until is health declined. Dan was also an enthusiastic Red Sox and Patriots fan and watched virtually all of their televised games.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be private.
