Obituary for John E. Cherwek

Shrewsbury-John E. “Jack” Cherwek, 76, of Shrewsbury, went home to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 5, 2013 due to a serious car accident on Sunday.
He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Ruby M. (Benson) Cherwek; his two children, Mark Cherwek and his wife Charleen of Quincy, and Tracy May and her husband Steven of North Grafton; his five grandchildren, 2nd Lt. Joseph May, USAF and his wife Arielle, Sean May, Sydney May, John Cherwek and Katherine Cherwek; his sister, Joyce Mentus of Riverside, RI; and three nieces. He was born and raised in Salem, son of the late John and Lillian (Chulyk) Cherwek and has lived in Shrewsbury for many years. He graduated from Northeastern University, Boston and worked as a comptroller for the Sears Roebuck Co. for many years prior to his retirement. Jack loved everything about the outdoors. Whether it was winter, summer or somewhere in between, Jack enjoyed sports in every season. He loved skiing in the winter, boating and sailing in the summer, long bike rides through the countryside and the occasional camping trip. Jack did it all and cherished those times and memories. He was also an active member of his church, the Bethlehem Bible Church in West Boylston.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack’s family on Sunday, February 10th from 3-5 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, and again in Monday, February 11th from 10-11 AM in the Bethlehem Bible Church, 307 Lancaster Street (Route 110) West Boylston. A service of celebration of Jack’s life will then be held at 11 AM in the church, followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the UMass Memorial Healthcare, UMass Medical Development Office, 33 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545
