SHREWSBURY- Francis J. Sweeney, 86, of Shrewsbury died Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.

Mr. Sweeney was born in Worcester, son of the late Michael J. and Helen (Hamilton) Sweeney. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. He entered in the United States Navy serving during W.W. II. He later continued his education and was a proud member of the Class of 1950 from the College of the Holy Cross.

Francis worked as a systems analyst for over 30 years for the MITRE Corporation before he retired. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and jogging when he could.

His wife, Rita M. (Reardon) Sweeney died in 2008. He leaves his children, a son, Michael and four daughters, Maureen, Patricia, Eileen and Sharon. A daughter, Kathleen predeceased Francis in 1994. He also leaves six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, two brothers, Leonard and Robert Sweeney and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass for Francis will be celebrated at a later date in his parish Church of Saint Mary’s in Shrewsbury. Burial will be next to his wife in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
