Obituary for Charles C. Stewart

Charles C. Stewart, 91, of Auburn and Shrewsbury died Monday, January 7, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

His wife and best friend of 62 years, Doris A. (Hanlon) Stewart died in 2010. He leaves his four children, Charles Kevin Stewart and his wife, Thea of Oxford, James F. Stewart and his wife, Fay of Shrewsbury, Paul Matthew Stewart and his wife, Katherine of Uxbridge, Mary Ann McGuire and her husband, Michael of Minnesota; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, George O. Stewart and Freeman McVitty and a sister, Catherine M. Liberatore.

Charles was born in Boston; he was the son of Louis and Gladys (Chapdelaine) McVitty. He attended Mendon Schools.
Charles served proudly during W. W. II, stationed in Chergenola, Italy with the Unites States Army Air Corp, flying with the 15th Air Corp, 454th bomb group, 739th wing. He participated in many spectacular flights and bombing missions and awarded the Air Medal, Purple Heart, 3 Oak Clusters and other Citations for his bravery

Through the years, Charles and his family had lived many years in Framingham, Southborough, and finally settling in Shrewsbury in 1993. He made his living in real estate, having started as one of the founding members of Five-Star Realty in Natick. He later owned and operated Charles Stewart Realty in Framingham from 1965 until 1973. Later in 1973, Charles starting working as an appraiser, this is something that he did for many years, before retiring in 1997.

He was a member of Saint Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Charlie’s family on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 from the funeral home with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Medway.
