Obituary for Joseph O.R. "Ronnie" Roberge

Joseph O.R. “Ronnie” Roberge, 88, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.

His wife and best friend of 42 years, Lorraine (Fournier) Roberge died in 1989. He leaves his four sons, Ronald Roberge of Austin, Texas,
Mark Roberge and his wife, Jean of Shrewsbury, Guy Roberge and his wife, Cheryl of Westborough, and Matthew Roberge and his partner, Steven Vigue of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren, Addie Gorman, Lea Roberge, Nichole Hunt, Colette Roberge, Chantel and Jamieson Roberge; two great grandchildren, Jacoby and Callie Mae; a brother, Bruce Roberge of Grafton and several nieces and nephews

Ronnie was born in Gilman, Vermont, son of the late Edward and Aurore (Bowdoin) Roberge. He graduated from South High School in Worcester and later served his country proudly with the United States Navy during W.W. II.

He worked as a Licensed Master Plumber for various contractors in the Worcester County area, retiring from Sprague Electric in Worcester.

Ronnie was a family man through and through. He spent quality time with his boys camping when they were growing and enjoyed being surrounded by his family at all times. Ronnie was a true collector of many things in his life and never really discarded anything. He especially loved gardening, and spent many hours growing vegetables for his family and friends.


The Roberge family wishes to thank the entire staff of Shrewsbury Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for all the compassionate care given to Mr. Roberge while he was a patient there.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ronnie’s family on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 9:00-10:00AM in the Britton- Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will follow and be celebrated at 11:00AM in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St, Boylston, Burial with military honors will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, c/o Shrewsbury Senior Center, 98 Maple Ave, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
