Obituary for Raymond Wilfred Hebert

Raymond Wilfred  Hebert
Raymond Wilfred Hebert of Brewster, MA, affectionately known as “THE CANDYMAN”, passed peacefully at home with family by his side on November 26, 2012. Born in Keene, NH on July 28, 1926 to Frederick and Adelaide Hebert of Fitchburg, MA, he married the love of his life, Therese M Tasse in 1948. They have been married 64 years. He was predeceased by his son, Air Force Master Sergeant Charles F. Hebert.
He served his country, honorably, in WW II as a member of the Naval Armed Guard on the S. S. Sydney Lanier. Upon returning home he moved to Shrewsbury, MA and worked 40 years with his father and brother to make Hebert Candies the largest manufacturing retailer of fine candies in New England.
Ray was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sang in its Choir, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 158. He participated in Worcester’s Harmony Club and Shrewsbury’s American Legion Post #238. An accomplished horseman, pilot, distance swimmer and Weimaraner breeder, he loved his wife, children, pets, skiing, golf, and making candy.
In 1980, he retired from Hebert Candies and moved to Brewster, Cape Cod to help son, Ray and daughter-in-law Donna, open Stage Stop Candy in Dennisport, MA. He is also survived by son Guy Hebert and his wife Suzanne of Millbury, and four daughters Louise Ohrn and her husband Bill of Barre, MA, Renee Ceely and her husband Martin of Nantucket, Michele Hebert of Spencer, MA, and Ret. Major Celeste Hebert and her partner Margaret of Tacoma, WA. He is blessed with 7 grandchildren Fred and Douglas Ohrn, Adam Ceely, Myles Hebert, Daniel Hebert DVM of Greenwich, RI, Wendy Marshall and her husband Stan of Plymouth, MA, and 3 great- grandchildren, Jesse and Brooke Marshall and Aubrey Ohrn. "Kisses" from all of us.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Raymond ‘s family on Friday, November 30th from 4-7PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, SHREWSBURY. His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 1st from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, SHREWSBURY. Entombment in the Hebert Family Mausoleum at Notre Dame Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brewster Fire and Rescue Association or Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod Hospice Care.
